Having joined the club from US Chambray-les-Tours in 2011, Abdou Diallo, born on May 4 1996 in Tours, has learned his football in the principality. Regularly called up by first-team coach Claudio Ranieri, the reserve team central defender is delighted with this 'first step' of his professional career, but knows there is still a long road to travel.
Abdou Diallo: "This first pro contract, it was my objective when I joined here as a youngster. I have reached that objective now and I want to keep progressing. The most important thing is the pitch. I want to play. The club offers me that chance, I am grabbing it and I am very happy. There is a lot of experience and talent at Monaco. I have to keep lifting my game here and that's an excellent thing. I came through the youth ranks here, I grew up here, it has been a part of my education and my life. The youth academy has given me so much and I'd like to thank everyone there."
Vadim Vasilyev - AS Monaco FC vice-president: "It is essential that we show our confidence in the kids from our youth academy. Abdou Diallo fits perfectly into our sporting project. There is a lot of talent and we hope he continues to progress alongside the great players we have at AS Monaco. The club has a great youth academy tradition and it allows our young players to keep growing up in a Monaco shirt."
