As part of its preseason training program this summer, AS Monaco will participate in the second edition of the Copa EuroAmericana.
In addition to AS Monaco, prestigious South American and European clubs, such as Altlético Madrid and Fiorentina, will also take part in this international competition held in eight cities from Latin America and North America, in an innovative format
AS Monaco will become the first Ligue 1 club to tour in South America, thus enhancing its global strategy. The competition will start in Colombia, the country of its global stars Falcao and James Rodriguez, and then progress to the United States.
The “Rouge et Blanc” will face two Colombian clubs: Atlético Junior in Barranquilla on July the 20th, and Atlético Nacional in Miami on July the 23rd.
"It is a pleasure and an interesting challenge for our team to compete with leading international clubs. This tournament fully fits our ambition to be a global player and attract fans from around the world," said Vadim Vasilyev, the vice-president of AS Monaco.
In addition to Colombia and the United States, Brasil, Mexico, Canada, Chile and Peru will host a match.
The Copa EuroAmericana consists of eight “all or nothing” games, with winners determined by penalties in case of any ties. The winner of each match will be awarded one point for their continent. The continent earning the highest number of points will emerge from the tournament as the champions.
In the first edition, last summer, Europe captured the title after winning 6-2 on aggregated points.
