ON THEIR FIRST MEETING AND BEING ROOMATES
Helder Costa: We’ve known each for about 7 or 8 years, we played together at Benfica. The seconde year, we lived in the same house after leaving the academy. That’s where our journey started. Since then, we’ve been great friends, almost like brothers. We went to La Coruna together, and now here to Monaco and we’re still sharing a house.
Ivan Cavaleiro: I think I’m the most annoying, as I’m often behind him nagging him to tidy away his stuff, and since there are two of us in the apartment, he has to contribute to the chores and this guy hasn’t gotten used to that yet! Fortunately, we get on very well, we know each other and know what the other one likes and doesn’t like, and so we respect each other. We’ve been friends since Benfica and will be for a long time to come.
ON SETTLING INTO LIFE IN THE PRINCIPALITY
IC: We often go to Beausoleil, just round the corner. There are Portuguese restaurants there where already know all the dishes, and we get a great welcome. We feel at home, we don’t need to go to a French restaurant where we don’t always understand what’s in the food. It’s easier for us.
HC: We explored a bit when we were at the hotel. We sometimes go to Nice, to see Portuguese friends there, and to get our hair cut.
ON PLAYING TOGETHER FOR PORTUGAL ONE DAY
HC: It’s more a dream for me because, as you know, Ivan has already been called up to the senior national team several times. I need to work hard to achieve that goal, but it’s what every player dreams about. Playing alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and a “brother” in the same team would be great!
