Originally from Luanda (Angola), the talented youngster has played for Portugal at every youth level, but did not take part in the last Euro U21 tournament which saw Portugal reach the final. After making his debut for SL Benfica reserves, he joined Ivan Cavaleiro on loan at Deportivo La Coruna last January. Now he has made a similar move to AS Monaco, in the form of a season-long loan.
Statement by Vadim Vasilyev, Vice-President & CEO of AS Monaco
"Like Ivan Cavaleiro, Helder Costa represents the future of Portuguese football and we are very pleased with his arrival. Helder is a winger who is even younger, but every bit as talented. He is a quality recruit, but we will be giving him time to adapt and progress."
