Though they are no stranger to imposing arenas, having played in Barranquilla, Miami, London and Paris already this season, there was definitely a wow factor for those players who were taking their first steps onto the pitch at the legendary Lusitanian stadium.
While it had been raining steadily throughout the afternoon, the storm that broke as the players left for training was a different kettle of fish. Everybody got a thorough drenching under the deluge, despite it only lasting a few minutes.
The players trained for just under an hour on a pitch that looked immaculate in spite of the weather, rounding off the session with shooting practice after Leonardo Jardim had given his players their tactical instructions. The squad now head off for dinner and some treatment, before getting a good night's sleep.
