While he made several appearances during pre-season, Thomas Lemar had to wait until 22 August to make his debut for AS Monaco in a competitive fixture. And what a debut it was! Coming on as a substitute against Toulouse in the 3rd game of Ligue 1, the former Caen star equalised with a stunning left-footed strike. He then came off the bench again in the second leg against Valencia on 25 August to play a big part in his side's second goal, delivering the free-kick that enabled a combination of Guido Carrillo and Elderson to find the net.
Those two promising performances earned him a first start against PSG, where he was replaced by Ivan Cavaleiro with twenty minutes to go. In three appearances and 140 minutes on the pitch, Thomas Lemar has won over the AS Monaco fans, at least enough for him to be voted their Top Player of the summer 2015. The U21 international beat his captain Jérémy Toulalan and fellow summer signing Ivan Cavaleiro, who was just ahead of Danijel Subasic, with Stephan El Shaarawy completing the Top 5.
