Marcelo Gallardo to kick off!

One more reason to get down to the Stade Louis-II on Sunday and cheer on Les Rouge et Blanc against Nantes: former AS Monaco FC playmaker Marcelo Gallardo will take the celebrity kick-off!
'El Muñeco' returns to the Stade Louis-II! Over four seasons, from 1999 to 2003, Marcelo Gallardo regaled not on the fans of AS Monaco FC but all of the French footballing community, winning the Ligue 1 title in his first season with the club in 1999-2000!
Joining the club from his youth club River Plate, like Lucas Ocampos today, the international playmaker (44 caps) played 126 matches and scored 23 goals in Rouge et Blanc. In 2003, he chose to return to River Plate, but returned again to France, playing in the colours of PSG in 2007-08. He then played for DC United in the MLS, River Plate for a third time, before hanging up his boots in 2011 after a final stint at Nacional Montévideo in Uruguay.
It's now more than a decade since Marcelo Gallardo and AS Monaco FC parted ways, but the former star remains a firm fan favourite. However he has kept his links in the principality and never misses the opportunity to drop into the official club shop on the Rue Grimaldi when he's in town. On Sunday night, the Stade Louis-II will no doubt offer him the ovation he deserves!
