Wass stuns the Louis II
AS Monaco FC began the match with an attacking formation that featured the trio comprising Ocampos, Carrasco and James behind Falcao. Yet it was ETG that carved out the first chance of the match with a long-range free-kick that Subasic saved at the second attempt. In the tenth minute, and at the other end, Hansen was called upon to palm away a dangerous Ocampos cross. The Danish 'keeper was back at it again in the 17th minute to deny Ferreira Carrasco, whose shot was heading for the top corner. In the 20th minute, it was Ocampos that found the outside of the side-netting with an effort from the right of the box. The home side appeared to be in control of proceedings, when Wass surprised everyone to score with a powerful finish beyond Subasic in the 21st minute.
Falcao's ninth goal
Moments later, a near-identical action saw Subasic come out on top. The Croatian shot-stopper was back on top in the 24th minute with an excellent save to stop Sougou. Just as Evian looked to be in the ascendency, Monaco conjured an equaliser in the 27th minute. Toulalan won back possession and found James who played the ball into the feet of Falcao in the area. El Tigre did the rest with a crisp shot across Hansen to net his ninth goal of the season. Despite getting back on level terms, ASM struggled to breakdown the visitors and had to wait until just before half time before they had another chance when James picked out Toulalan whose volley flashed just wide in the 43rd minute. Despite dominating possession and territory, Les Rouge et Blanc were held 1-1 at the break.
Subasic saves the day
Unfortunately that didn't change after the restart... But the players were showing all the right intentions. With three corners in quick succession, Carvalho saw his effort blocked in front of goal. It was to be the only dangerous moment for Claudio Ranieri's from a series of set-piece situations… In the 65th minute, ASM went close to disaster when Sougou raced clear though on goal. But like against Saint-Etienne, Subasic saved his side with an outstretched foot! It was a real scare for ASM who went back on the offensive as Falcao saw his left-foot shot deflected for a corner. In the 71st minute, Hansen saved from Toulalan. Subasic did likewise against Ehret in the 73rd.
Ocampos hits the bar!
In the final 15 minutes, Rivière's header from a Toulalan cross flirted with the top right-hand corner of Hansen's goal. In the 81st minute, Sougou missed the target after a flowing team move. Nistor then saw his shot saved by Subasic. The match seemed to be heading for a second home draw when Ocampos made space for a shot in the area, only to see the ball come back off the crossbar. The tired sides failed to make the most of any chances in the final exchanges and the hosts must now turn their attentions to their next match against Nantes on November 24. But before then, there's the international break...
