A day after the 3-1 friendly win over PSV, coach Leonardo Jardim naturally decided to rotate his squad and selected a new-look line-up: Nardi - Tisserand, Touré, Wallace, Elderson (C) - Bakayoko, Mexique, A. Traoré - H. Costa, Bahlouli, L. Traoré. Against the side that finished second in France's National league last season, the Red & Whites carved out the first chances of the game. In the 7th minute, after Tisserand carried the ball forward well down the right, Helder Costa found himself with the ball at his feet and, darting into the middle, struck a curling effort that flew over Demarconnay's crossbar. On 10 minutes, Tisserand tried his luck from just outside the penalty on the right, but was unable to keep his shot down. Two minutes later, Helder Costa had another attempt from a central position 20 yards out, which was deflected straight into the arms of the goalkeeper by Lybohy.
With the match somewhat disjointed despite those few opportunities, it was the Parisians who finally posed the greater threat. In the 17th minute, Wallace hit his own crossbar as he attempted to clear a free-kick from the left. The ball fell to PFC, and Tisserand was forced to clear another shot off the line… Less than ten minutes later, it was the turn of Nardi to come to the Monegasques' rescue, the young 'keeper reacting well to push away a carefully-placed header from Kinkela.
At half-time, El Shaarawy and Carrillo came on in place of Lacina Traoré and Helder Costa respectively. Within moments of making his entrance, the "Pharaoh" unleashed a shot from 18 yards that was well held by the 'keeper. The Red & Whites upped the tempo a notch and began to look more enterprising. In the 62nd minute, Adama Traoré met a good cross from Tisserand on the volley to draw a good save from the Paris 'keeper. Four minutes later, Carrillo sneaked into the left side of the box, turned and nutmegged his defender, but his shot was scuffed and failed to trouble Demarconnay.
AYMEN ABDENNOUR RETURNS
After picking up a thigh injury at the Stade Vélodrome on matchday 36 of the last Ligue 1 campaign, Aymen Abdennour made his return to match action in the 73rd minute of this game, replacing Tisserand. Moments after his introduction, following good work by Cavaleiro and Adama Traoré, El Shaarawy collected the ball in the area, advanced and struck from a tight angle, only to see the 'keeper push his attempt clear. The Red & Whites were well on top, but came within a whisker of conceding a suck-punch in the 81st minute when Ech-Chergui ran onto a low cross and found himself all alone in front of goal, but completely missed the target. The last chances of the game fell to AS Monaco, with Bakayoko getting his head to a corner to skim the top of the bar in injury time. The 20 players present will head back to Saint-Vincent this evening to continue the training camp, which is due to end with a final friendly against Mayence next Wednesday.
