Jordi Mboula was forced off with an injury on 36 minutes, and watched from the bench as Gussias knocked home a fine cross to draw the Norwegians (44’). Shortly after half-time, Zerkane took advantaged of a mix-up in the home defence to put a determined Monegasque team back in front (50’).
The response was immediate, as Tobias Svendsen went on a slaloming run between the Red & White lines before slamming home (56’) to make it 2-2. Following the equalizer Fred Barilaro’s charges looked to regain the advantage, leaving themselves open to Molde’s quick counter-attacks, but neither side was able to make the difference.
The tie would ultimately be decided on penalties, and Monegasque ‘keeper Manu Mifsud kept out two of the Norwegian side’s efforts to secure a nail-biting 4-2 shoot-out victory! As last year, the U19s are through to the last 16 of the Youth League! They will discover their next opponents when the draw is made on Friday (13:00).
