Like Bernardo Silva and Ivan Cavaleiro, the Brazil-born midfielder has represented Portugal at every junior level, and exemplifies the future of Lusitanian football. In 2013, the then 17 year-old Rony Lopes scored on his professional debut with Manchester City.
"I have heard a lot about Monaco. It's a superb city, with a pleasant climate. I know the team too, as I have friends who play for AS Monaco. I've already played alongside them for the national team (Silva, Cavaleiro, etc.). AS Monaco is an excellent club to develop at. This is a good challenge for me."
On loan at Lille last season, Rony Lopes made 23 appearances in Ligue 1 and scored three goals (with two assists).
Vadim Vasilyev, Vice-President & CEO of AS Monaco: "We are very pleased to welcome Rony Lopes, a promising young talent of Portuguese football in whom we have a lot of faith. At Lille, he has already demonstrated adaptability and very high level ability. Rony is only 19 but we think he will be able to develop at Monaco and show his potential."
