The very first meeting between Toulouse and AS Monaco dates back to 16 December 1951. Both sides were then in the Second Division, and TFC won the game 2-1. Three years later, on 3 January 1954, the first top-flight clas between the two clubs ended in a 1-1 draw.
Just 36% of games lost
Since then, Toulouse have hosted AS Monaco on 39 occasions in Ligue 1. Saturday’s game will be the 40th in the top division, and so far Toulouse have the better record with 14 wins to Monaco’s 10. When the 15 draws are included, however, that stat looks more even, with AS Monaco having lost just 36% of their matches in the ‘Pink City’.
Third time’s a charm?
Over the last ten meetings in Ligue 1, the trend clearly favours the Monegasques. Toulouse have only beaten AS Monaco once at Le Stadium since 2004, a 2-0 win in the fateful 2010-2011 season. And while, between 2004 and 2010, the sides drew seven times in a row, since their return to Ligue 1, AS Monaco have recorded two successive 2-0 victories. Don’t they say these things come in threes?
