Although the result of this first home match of the 2014-2015 season is best forgotten, the fans made sure there was a memorable atmosphere.
The AS Monaco Football Store was bustling even yesterday afternoon, with so many people trying to get in that supervisors were eventually forced to ask fans to queue at the store's entrance for safety reasons. It was a similar story at the temporary store set up opposite the Stade Louis-II's forecourt.
In the build-up to the match itself, things went up a gear on the forecourt with performances from the Circus Dinner Show, the musicians of Mexijazz and football freestyler Iya Traoré.
There was a real sense of anticipation with the fans eager to welcome back their team, which had played all its pre-season games away from home.
The players entered the arena to the magnificent strains of Luciano Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma, along with a wonderful tifo from three sides of the stadium, and enjoyed noisy support right from the fans until the final whistle in spite of the disappointing result.
The next home game is against LOSC at the end of the month, and the Red & Whites can no doubt expect a similar atmosphere and enthusiastic support despite this unfortunate start.
