1919, the merger of 5 separate entities
The Association Sportive de Monaco Football was founded on the 1st August, 1919 by the merger of five entities from the Principality of Monaco and from Beausoleil. Out of these five entities, Herculis, was formed in 1903 to play football; it had the honour of taking part in the very first French Cup in 1917. Affiliated with the number 91, the Club is one of the oldest members of the French Football Federation.
The multiple sports club of the Association Sportive de Monaco was founded on the 23rd August, 1924. AS Monaco Football was then absorbed by the latter and became the football section of the enlarged Monegasque sporting club.
First league match in 1924
It was in the 1924 - 25 season that ASM played its first match in the South-Eastern League. They rapidly got promoted to the group B in the next level of the South-Eastern League but, although finishing on top of the table, they were relegated following a complaint (which was also justified). Not discouraged by this, the Club got back to work and continue its ascent in a football where the professionalism is still in its early stages.
