With 30 competitive matches played before the winter break, the Red & Whites were guaranteed to feature in at least 23 more between now and the end of the season (19 in Ligue 1, 1 in the Coupe de France, 1 in the Coupe de la Ligue and 2 in the UEFA Champions League). The win against Ajaccio has now added a 24th to the team's already packed calendar. And if they make it into the semi-finals of the Coupe de la Ligue at Sochaux on Tuesday evening, there will be yet another…
At the least, AS Monaco would end the season with 55 games played, as in 2014-2015. If the team somehow manage the crazy feat of making it to the final of all three of the cup competitions in which they are involved, they could be looking at a total of 65 matches. But what a thrill those extra 10 games would be!
12, 13 or 14 matches in 2 months!
But just making it past 55 matches will be a marathon task for Leonardo Jardim and his men. They could be facing a run of 13 matches in two months, rising to 14 if they reach the last 16 of the Coupe de France scheduled for the end of February (between the two games against Man City). The records could continue to tumble this season!
The last 32 of the Coupe de France will be sandwiched between the trip to Paris (29 January) and the visit of OGC Nice (6 February), on Tuesday 31 January or Wednesday 1 February. A possible Coupe de la Ligue semi-final would be played a week earlier, on Wednesday 25 January, between the visit of Lorient (22 January) and the trip to Paris. A daunting schedule, but one that we hope will put our team on the path to a trophy!
