Abdou, who hails from Mantes-la-Jolie just outside Paris, signed a three-year professional contract on Thursday morning. "I'm very proud to sign pro terms with AS Monaco, where I've come through the academy system. This is a new stage and hopefully just the start," said the ball-winning midfielder, who is now beginning his third season in the Principality.
"I like it when things move faster. I want to succeed," added the youngster, who has always been ahead of the game in his development. Born on 15 January 1997, the youngest of the Thiam children with four brothers and seven sisters, Abdou was by his own admission "a bit surprised" on receiving the call to join the seniors in early July, but has made the step up with great maturity. "There are some great players at Monaco," he enthused after bumping into Ricardo Carvalho in the corridors of the Louis-II.
"I take inspiration from their careers, their experience..." explained Abdou, before heading off for lunch at the training centre and then on to training at La Turbie with the senior squad at 17.00.
