Adi Hütter: “I feel the squad is focused on the last six matches”
Focused on preparing for the trip to Brest this Sunday (kick-off 5:05 p.m.), the Monegasque manager spoke to the media 48 hours before this crucial match in the race for the podium.

Like his players, he found the time long. They have been focused for around ten days on the big match for the 30th round of Ligue 1 against Stade Brestois (Sunday, 5:05 p.m.), due to the postponement of the decisive match against Lille, Adi Hütter said he was impatient at the pre-match press conference. It was therefore with a conquering spirit that he spoke of what’s to come for AS Monaco, starting with the team’s trip to Brittany. 🎙️

Brest’s qualities

They do a lot of interesting things. Before playing Lyon, they had the second best defense in the championship behind Nice. They are also the ones who put in the most crosses. Romain Del Castillo is skillful in this and Steve Mounié is very good in the air, he is perhaps one of the best in the league in this area.

I am not unhappy that Pierre Lees-Melou is suspended because he has been one of the league’s best players this season, he is very strong in duels. Their being in second place is not undeserved, they play with intensity and play very good football. Their last defeat at home dates back to October 29 and they remain on a run of seven wins and three draws.

The sequence of upcoming matches

There are three important matches coming up, perhaps there will be a rotation by playing one or two attackers in one of these matches. Mo’ is back, Breel also has a good impact and talks a lot in the locker room. I always have more solutions. All players must be involved and ready to be in the 11 or to come on for 5 or 20 minutes. Each player is important and I feel the squad is focused on the last six matches. We must continue this style of play and our level of performance.

Last week we did more big training sessions, there was also an internal friendly in which there was a lot of space. This week was more normal. I have a good feeling, we are in a good situation before facing Brest.

The match against Lille on Wednesday

I watched Lille’s match yesterday against Aston Villa. They were fantastic but were unlucky because they deserved to qualify. Aston Villa are at the top of the table in England and they were very good for 70 minutes, but I thought they were better. Their goalkeeper will be unhappy with having conceded that goal. Wednesday will be a big match but I am fully focused on Brest.

The two-week break without a match

Last week we did more big training sessions, there was also an internal friendly in which there was a lot of space. This week was more normal. I have a good feeling, we are in a good situation before facing Brest.

Fun games at the start of training

Since the beginning of the week, we have carried out intense training sessions. Two days before the match, we automatically do a lighter session. The first part of the warm-up could be funny to watch but then we played seriously for 20 minutes with the ball. We have prepared well for this decisive week, and we are totally focused on Brest before thinking about Lille.

His confidence in Wissam Ben Yedder

Even if he has gone seven games without scoring, he brings us a lot and has an impact. I think for example about Maghnes’ goal in Metz where it is he who creates space through his movement so that he can challenge the goalkeeper. He is very dangerous for opponents and is important on the pitch.

Everyone is happy that Caio is back. He has been training with us since last week without any contact. He will do full training starting next week, and we will be attentive to his development. We will see in 3-4 games if he can be in the squad.

The contributions of Damien Perrinelle to the staff

He has a renewing impact. He is a very talented coach who knew the style of the team, he brings what we were looking for. He does not hesitate to give his opinions. I’m happy with him, it’s an extra perspective during the session and he contributes fully to the current success and our six-match unbeaten run.

The returns of Caio Henrique and Breel Embolo

Everyone is happy that Caio is back. He has been training with us since last week without any contact. He will do full training starting next week, and we will be attentive to his development. We will see in 3-4 games if he can be in the squad.

For his part, Breel is getting better and better after his long injury, it’s a long process. We can see it in training, he is better in duels. He will be an important player for the last 6 games of the season and his presence can help us.

Injuries to Aleksandr Golovin and Ismail Jakobs

We are obviously disappointed and very sad about their injuries. They were in great form, as Ismail notably had turned in two big matches. Golo is a key player for us, but we have other solutions to replace him, we are focused on that. They will probably be out until the end of the season but maybe they will be able to play a match, I don’t know yet.

Solutions to replace Aleksandr Golovin

It’s certain that we don’t have players similar to Golo’ but there are solutions to replace him. There is  Eliesse, Maghnes who is in very good form or even Takumi. The option to play with two attackers is also there. We will see what we are going to do about this.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
