Happy Birthday Leonardo Jardim

Happy Birthday Leonardo Jardim
AS Monaco wishes an excellent birthday to coach Leonardo Jardim. The Portuguese coach is celebrating his 45th birthday this Thursday.

Leonardo Jardim came to run the red and white in 2014, from Sporting CP, succeeding Claudio Ranieri. In his first season in 2014/2015, he led Les Monégasques to first place of his group in the Champions League in front of Bayer Leverkusen, Zénith Saint-Petersburg and Benfica Lisbon.

During this campaign, AS Monaco played a historic match against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in the round of 16. The Gunners were then ultra-favorites against Les Monegasques, who were down several players, but Jardim inspires his players who win 3-1, thanks to the entry into play of Yannick Carrasco, decisive scorer at the end of the game. The man that Benjamin Mendy nicknamed “El Tactico” two years later then makes his first big splash on the European scene.

An exciting team emerges, the successes come as a team, the supporters are jubilant, and AS Monaco is the best attack in Europe with an average of 3 goals per game at the end of the 22nd day of the championship. Better, the team reaches the last stage of the Champions League with great performances against Tottenham, Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund.

On February 21, 2017, AS Monaco defeated Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the quarter-final of the Champions League. Leonardo Jardim throws Kylian Mbappé into the fray, although he did not play any game during the group stage. It pays off as the homegrown player will score a goal and assist during a legendary match. Defeated 5-3 by the Citizens in the first leg, AS Monaco turned the tide in the return match, with Mbappe scoring again. With attention by the Portuguese technician, the phenomenon is off and running …

Only stopped in the semi-finals by Juventus, the team ended the season in a bang and won the title of French champion at Paris Saint-Germain, the 8th in the history of AS Monaco, the first since the year 2000 !

Bravo Mister and especially, happy birthday.
