AS Monaco wishes an excellent birthday to coach Leonardo Jardim. The Portuguese coach is celebrating his 45th birthday this Thursday.

Leonardo Jardim came to manage the red and white in 2014, from Sporting CP, succeeding Claudio Ranieri. In his first season in 2014/2015, he led the Les Monégasques to first place in the Champions League group in front of Bayer Leverkusen, Zénith Saint-Petersburg, and Benfica Lisbon.

During this campaign, AS Monaco played a historic match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the Round of 16. The Gunners were then favorites against Les Monegasques, who were down several players, but Jardim inspires his players, who won 3-1, thanks to Yannick Carrasco’s decisive score at the end of the game. The man that Benjamin Mendy nicknamed “El Tactico” two years later made his first big splash on the European scene.

In 2016/2017, Leonardo Jardim and his men had an exceptional season. An exciting team emerged, the successes coming as a team, the supporters were jubilant, and AS Monaco was the best-attacking team in Europe with an average of 3 goals per game. Better, the team reached the last stages of the Champions League with great performances against Tottenham, Manchester City or Borussia Dortmund.

On February 21, 2017, AS Monaco defeated Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the quarter-final of the Champions League. Leonardo Jardim threw Kylian Mbappé into the fray, although he did not play any game during the group stage. It payed off as the homegrown player scored a goal and had an assist during a legendary match. Defeated 5-3 by the Citizens in the first leg, AS Monaco turned the tide in the return match, with Mbappe scoring again.

Only stopped in the semi-finals by Juventus, the team ended the season with a bang and won the Ligue 1 champion over Paris Saint-Germain, the 8th in the history of AS Monaco and the first since 2000!

Monaco again finish second in the 2017/2018 campaign, before the much more complicated 2018/2019 season which saw AS Monaco fight for survival until the last day! Today, Leonardo Jardim begins his sixth season at the head of a team he has led for 250 games, with great success: a French title in 2017, runner-up in 2018, two league finals in 2017 and 2018 and a Champions League semifinal in 2017.
