On April 8, 2015, a young 17-year-old striker made his grand debut with the PSG pennant team in a French Cup match against Saint-Etienne and assisted Zlatan Ibrahilovic on his third goal of the night. Unknown to the general public, Jean-Kévin Augustin was not unknown to wise observers. Particularly brilliant with the youth teams of the Paris club, the young striker was also with the Blues in U16, U17, U18 and now U19.
Apprentice among the stars
Definitively integrated into the first team the following season, Jean-Kévin Augustin had a very promising summer by scoring 3 goals in 4 games in the US pre-season tournament, the International Champions Cup. Starter for the first game of championship against GFC Ajaccio, he headed back to the bench afterwards, once the Parisian stars returned. That did not prevent him from scoring his first Ligue 1 goal in November 2015 in a match against ESTAC, and playing his first Champions League match against Malmö later on. From 2015 to 2017, the center forward had 31 appearances with PSG and was instrumental in the Euro U19 2016 won by France.
Top scorer of the Euro U19 2016
Author of a hat-trick against the Netherlands during the group stage, Jean-Kévin Augustin was the leader of the Bleuets who dominated Spain in the final (4-0). On this occasion, the French striker scored his 6th goal of the competition of which he is the top scorer! This splendid performance did not change his status within his training club. The young man knew that to improve, he must win playing time, and went to the Bundesliga, where he found a new challenge in the RB Leipzig side in July 2017. With 37 games, 12 goals and 6 assists in 2017-2018, his first German season was a success. The second would be more complicated.
4 goals and 2 “assists” in Europa League
Disturbed by his complicated relationship with the FFF, his 2018-19 season was marked by 30 games, 8 goals and 2 assists. Nevertheless, Jean-Kévin Augustin has a good campaign in the Europa League with 4 goals and 2 assists to his credit, even if the adventure ended with a disappointing third place in the group stage. Leipzig had tasted the Champions League the previous season, playing AS Monaco at Stade Louis-II (1-4). Jean-Kévin Augustin did not start the second match, but he came into play in the first leg which ended in a 1-1 draw in Leipzig.
Aware that talent alone is not enough and determined to take the lead of his own progression, “JKA” has decided to radically change his approach to his career. The summer of 2019 was one of awareness, the 22-year-old told Bild. Hoping to recover 100% of his physical qualities, he worked out individually during his holiday. RB Leipzig noticed the effort, witnessing a particularly sharp player during preparation. Loaned for one season with option of purchase, it is with AS Monaco that Jean-Kévin Augustin will be able to showcase both his talent and hard work.
