Axel Disasi: "We had to improve after the victory against PSG"

Axel Disasi: "We had to improve after the victory against PSG"
At the end of AS Monaco's great victory against Nîmes Olympique (3-0), the central defender and captain of the Rouge et Blancs on the day expressed his full satisfaction following the performance of his team.

He was playing his second match with the captain’s armband. A pillar of Niko Kovac‘s defence since the start of the season, Axel Disasi has been integral the great success of the Red and Whites against Nîmes Olympique this Sunday at the Stade Louis-II. After a inspired performance, the Monegasque central defender was obviously satisfied with this fourth win in a row, the club’s best run since December 2017 in the Principality.

What conclusions do you draw from this meeting?

We started the match very well, with the goal coming quite early. The coach had told us we had to attack them from the start in the final third of the pitch, and that’s what we did. In the second half, I think we came back less well, Nîmes were pressing more. But when we got down to eleven against ten, we were able to break forward and score the two goals that gave us the victory.

You have four straight Ligue 1 wins…

Yes, I think we had to improve the game against Paris Saint-Germain by taking three more points, otherwise the victory against the leader would have been for nothing. We have to continue like this, the season is still very long, but I think it bodes well for the future.

The work with the coach has been going well, he has been there for a little while now and we see that the understandings are being created little by little. We are working very well in training and it's now paying off in a match. It's up to us to continue to keep our momentum, to string together the good results.

Especially since there is a lot of competition at this top of the table …

It’s true, there are quite a few teams at our level, like Marseille, Lille and Lyon, who also have good numbers. We have to stay on this good run, string together the good results, and we’ll see what happens at the end of the season. We are competitors and obviously we want to finish at the top, but as I say the road is still long.

Did the defeat in Lyon do you more good than you thought?

I’ve spoken on this before, I think the loss to Lyon has done us good in a way, even if it’s weird to say it. Since then we have been more balanced defensively, we are more solid at the back. Besides, we haven’t lost since. Let’s continue on this positive series.

Is the “Niko Kovac method” finally bearing fruit?

The work with the coach has been going well, he has been there for a little while now and we see that the understandings are being created little by little. Rise. Risk. Repeat.
