AS Monaco continue to go through the gears against Saint-Gallen

AS Monaco continue to go through the gears against Saint-Gallen
AS Monaco played their second preseason match Wednesday against the Swiss side FC Saint-Gallen. The Rouge et Blanc, with many players from the Academy, drew (1-1) after an encouraging performance.

After their victory against Cercle Bruges on Saturday (1-0), AS Monaco continued their good start to the preseason as they were in action again at La Turbie, by drawing against a fine team from Saint-Gallen (1- 1). For this match, Philippe Clément decides once again to play two different teams in each half, starting with the centre back pairing of Axel Disasi and Yllan Okou with Jean Lucas as a playmaker in a 4-2-3-1 to start.

Jean Lucas quickly finds the net

The Brazilian also only needed two minutes to impress after a good overlap from Ismail Jakobs, hitting the post from the right but following it well to open the scoring (1-0, 2′). This impressive start to the match set the tone for this first half, during which chances  came quickly for both sides.

Quick to get stuck in, Aleksandr Golovin and Anthony Musaba were close to doubling the lead (18′, 26′), while Radoslaw Majecki made a superb save from a point-blank shot by Von Moos (23′). Guillemenot then missed a one-on-one (29′), beforeAleksandr Golovin, with a beautiful half-volley, forced the Swiss goalkeeper into a diving save (34′).

A refreshed eleven for the second half

At the break, Philippe Clement decides to change his entire eleven and brought on many young players from the Academy (Couto, Ribeiro, Bamba, Magassa, Efekele, Ayiah). Faced with a Swiss team who also completely changed, the match was balanced, with a battling quality and opportunities were rarer.

And even if the pairing of  Guillermo Maripán and Harisson Marcelin was solid, the Swiss team managed to equalize. Boris Babic recoverd the ball in the final third before beating Alexander Nübel with a beautiful shot low to the ground (1-1, 75′). The young Rouge et Blanc side tried everything to equalize, in particular thanks to their pace, but the score remained level.

A training camp away

The Monegasques will now fly to the south of Portugal on Monday, staying until Saturday, for their traditional preseason camp, in order to continue working until the resumption of official matches. Let’s go guys!
