AS Monaco bounce back against Dijon

AS Monaco bounce back against Dijon
AS Monaco recorded a narrow win against Dijon. Aleksandr Golovin scored the only goal of the match and allowed AS Monaco to finish on a high note before the international break.

The Red and Whites were determined to get back to winning ways tonight and showed it from the kickoff. In the third minute, Ben Yedder tried to pick out Slimani with a deep ball, the pass was too strong but the tone was set. Although it was one-way traffic for Monaco in the early going, it was necessary to wait until the 20th minute for the first clear chance. On a corner by Golovin, Glik gets his head on the ball but Gomis intervenes. The ball comes back to the Pole who can’t get a shot away. After a nice save by Lecomte against Cadiz, Gomis is again decisive in pushing away a good header by Badiashile on another corner (28th).

Golovin delivers for AS Monaco

In the wake of  this, the Dijon goalkeeper was very happy to see Slimani fluff his lines on a great opportunity. Played in at the back by Gelson Martins, the Algerian striker shot over while the goal was open (32nd). In the next minute, played a perfect header on a long cross from Ben Yedder, but Gomis was able to avoid the opening score. Lecomte was also troubled twice by Chouiar before the break (34th and 39th), but it was finally Golovin who will find the breakthrough in this first period. Superbly found by Slimani, he scores with a powerful shot to give his side a valuable advantage.

Gomis keeps it close

It was an advantage that AS Monaco trids to increase from the beginning of the second period, but as in the first half, the Red and Whites were frustrated by an intractable Gomis. The Dijon goalkeeper pushed away a good shot by Golovin in the 47th. Five minutes later, Badiashile had a header but it was off target, and missed from being converted by Maripán. The hour of play passed and then Gomis again intervened against Golovin (64th), before winning his duel with Gelson (75th). Dijon stayed in the match and would push until the end to level the score.

The right mindset

Without being cornered, the Red and Whites completed the game on the defensive, on the lookout for spaces left by their opponents late in a game finished at a measured pace. Both teams had given a lot and failed in the final minutes to take advantage of the opponent’s mistakes.  Without being too timid, AS Monaco finally managed to get back to winning ways, going from 15th to 8th pending the last matches of this 13th matchday. The podium is only a point further and our side will try to get even closer to Bordeaux after the international break that begins Monday.
