Job done! With a rotated team, AS Monaco won away to Quevilly-Rouen (3-1) on Sunday to move into the round of 16 in the Coupe de France, thanks to goals scored by Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland ( x2). Find the reactions of Stéphane Nado and Ruben Aguilar after the team’s qualification for the round of 16, the draw for which will take place Tuesday evening.

Good evening Stéphane. How are you feeling after this great qualification?

I want to congratulate the team, both the youngsters and those that are more experienced, for the character they have displayed, especially leading players like Wissam, Kevin or Ruben. There has been a lot of effort, listening and intensity over the last two days in training and we have showed that here tonight. The lad were professional, conscientious and very involved.

Your team controlled this match from start to finish…

We prepared for this match with the staff and we studied Quevilly-Rouen’s game well. For us, the most important thing was to our principles in the game, to have the ball, to play with intensity, to press high to create space. Once again, I would like to congratulate the players for their effort in this performance.

I know these two lads well because they play for me in the reserves. It was a great opportunity for them, as the Coupe de France is never something which is a given. They are two lads who are developing, and who must be allowed to grow.
Stéphane NadoAbout the play of Yllan Okou and Félix Lemarechal

This was a very young group tonight. What did you think of the performances of Yllan Okou and Félix Lemarechal, who were in the eleven?

I know these two lads well because they play for me in the reserves. It was a great opportunity for them, as the Coupe de France is never something which is a given. But they were very well supported, by Ruben and Strahinja for Yllan Okou, and by Eliot for Félix Lemarechal, who played a little deeper in midfield, in a position that was a bit unusual for him. They are two lads who are developing, and who must be allowed to grow.

Ruben Aguilar’s reaction:

How do you see this match, after qualifying without too much trouble?

We were very serious, and we respected our opponent first. It was important for us to show that they wouldn’t have a lot of opportunities, especially since the squad was slightly depleted. But whether it was the older players or the young ones, everyone has done their job. This will allow us to look to the future more serenely.

We had done well in integrating what the coach wanted to put in place, and this evening we showed a serious and united side to our play. Even against a Ligue 2 side, we did a good job.

Many young players from the Academy had the opportunity to play…

We were missing a few players, so we tried to help the young people who joined us, the few experienced players who were in the eleven. It’s a good thing for them that they got to play. We will now start a week of work to return to Ligue 1 on Sunday against Nantes.

Stéphane Nado was satisfied with the team’s play. Is that your opinion too?

Like I said, we showed that we were professional from the start of the game. We had done well in integrating what the coach wanted to put in place, and this evening we showed a serious and united side to our play. Even against a Ligue 2 side, we did a good job. Qualification for the round of 16 has been done, and we must continue on in this direction.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
