Tchouam', Fabinho, Glik… Which former Monegasques are in the World Cup?
In addition to the six players from AS Monaco's current squad called up for the tournament, 15 former Rouge et Blanc will also be present at the 2022 World Cup. Here's a look on these faces known to Club supporters.

What a tournament when current players renew old acquaintances! In addition to the six Monegasques – including Axel Disasi, called up as a reinforcement this Monday with France to compensate for the absence of Presnel Kimpembe – summoned for the 2022 World Cup with their respective countries, 15 former Rouge et Blanc will also be involved starting next week. Here’s a look at all of them!

Fofana and Disasi are in good company with Les Bleus

Let’s start with the French team, of course! Because our central defender, called up for the first time with Les Bleus, and Youssouf Fofana, are not the only players to have worn Rouge et Blanc among the list of 26 names revealed by Didier Deschamps, where we find in particular one Aurélien Tchouameni.

The French midfielder, who gave the ceremonial kick-off Sunday against Marseille, may thus have the opportunity to form again the famous “Fanameial” duo once more alongside his friend Youss’. The three players will also be accompanied by Kylian Mbappé, who will be responsible for leading the French attack. With four players – current and past with the Club – AS Monaco is thus the second most represented team behind PSG (5), level with Marseille.

An honor for the Monegasque training center

Thanks to the presence of France’s number 10, the Academy will therefore once again be represented in the French team during a World Cup. It’s become something of a  habit: 11 French players #MadeInLaDiagonale have already played in a World Cup. Except it’s not only with Les Bleus that we will find players who have passed through the training center of the Principality club, the symbol of great diversity.

We can think for example of Hannibal Mejbri with Tunisia, Yannick Carrasco with Belgium, Nicolas Nkoulou – present alongside Georges-Kévin Nkoudou, who passed through the Principality – with Cameroon or even Nampalys Mendy and Abdou Diallo in Senegal. The two players will also rub shoulders with Ismail Jakobs and Krépin Diatta with the Lions of Teranga, as well as Fodé Ballo-Touré, who spent time at the Club between 2018 and 2021.

Five 2017 Champions

In addition to Abdou Diallo and Kylian Mbappé, three other players present during the 2017 title run will also be in Qatar. These are Kamil Glik, Bernardo Silva and Fabinho. They are respectively part of the lists of Poland, Portugal and Brazil.

The latter could thus face Strahinja Pavlović in the group stages, since Serbia is in the same group as the Seleçao. Finally, the match between Belgium’s Youri Tielemans and Croatia’s Mario Pašalić could give rise to a confrontation in the midfield between the two former midfielders of AS Monaco. Congratulations to all and good luck!
