Aurélien Tchouameni named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year
What a year 2021 has been for Aurélien Tchouameni! Not only has the Monegasque number 8 established himself as a major asset in the Rouge et Blanc‘s exceptional season, but he also made his debut for Les Espoirs in March, with whom will soon play in the Euros.

To top it off, Aurélien Tchouameni, 21, has won the UNFP Trophy for the Best Young Player of the Season, rewarding his successful 2020-2021. The midfielder, shortlisted along with Sofiane Diop, his teammate, has won the award, beating Eduardo Camavinga (Stade Rennais), Amine Gouiri (OGC Nice) and Maxence Caqueret (Olympique Lyonnais).

The centrepiece of Niko Kovac’s team
A starter 35 times in Ligue 1 this season, Aurélien Tchouameni has only missed two games due to suspension and was one of the most-used players by Niko Kovac. With 41 official matches played, the native of Rouen is one of the keys to the Croatian manager’s style. The midfield duo he has formed with Youssouf Fofana throughout the season has set the pace for Monegasques’ collective play.
Dynamic and aggressive, the team has relied a lot on his quality. The former Bordeaux player has made 174 recoveries in Ligue 1 since the start of 2021, making him the best in the league in this category. His two goals in Ligue 1, the first two of his career, as well as his four assists, further reflect his versatility and his overall contribution to the collective.
Named four times in the team of the round by the sports daily L’Équipe, most recently in the win on Sunday against Stade Rennais (2-1), Aurélien Tchouameni has been justly rewarded for an impressive season. In March, he was also voted the Monegasque player of the month.

“A great point of pride”
Delighted to have won, Aurélien Tchouameni was all smiles as he spoke about the first individual honor of his young career. “It is a great point pride to win this trophy, I am extremely happy. It is a great individual award. I do not forget, though that it is the work the team has done that allows me to be at my best,” he said.

The midfielder also readily shared this award. “I would like to thank the whole team, all the staff and the whole of AS Monaco for giving me the opportunity to play for this Club and to feel at ease on a daily basis. It is thanks to all these people that I was able to win this trophy..I would especially like to dedicate it to my friend Youssouf Fofana. I owe a great deal to him for having won,” he concluded.
