After a selfless display, AS Monaco leaves Paris with a point
Heroic in their desire and determination, the Rouge et Blanc earned a one-all draw at the Parc des Princes: Kevin Volland was the goalscorer for AS Monaco.

After a very good match, AS Monaco earned a draw Sunday evening against Paris Saint-Germain (1-1). At the start of this showcase of the fourth round of Ligue 1 Uber Eats, Philippe Clement decided to change the system to switch to a 3-4-3 with a back line of Axel Disasi, Guillermo Maripán and Benoît Badiashile. We should also note a first start for Mohamed Camara in midfield and Kevin Volland lining up next to Wissam Ben Yedder in attack.

A deserved opener

The start of the match was very balanced and intense with the Rouge et Blanc applying a high press and maximum commitment to prevent the Parisians from building from the back. It ended up paying off in the 20th minute following a perfect tackle by Mohamed Camara, taking the ball off the feet of Lionel Messi in midfield.

After a one-two with Aleksandr Golovin, the Tsar perfectly sent in a long ball to the German striker. AS Monaco’s number 31 perfectly rode Presnel Kimpembe’s tackle and beat Gigi Donnarumma with a powerful strike. It was his fourth goal against PSG in Monegasque colors!

Success for AS Monaco

Dominant in their desire, the players of Philippe Clement did not let up, and could have even doubled the lead shortly after the half-hour mark. But a free kick by Caio Henrique was punched clear by the Parisian goalkeeper (33′).

Proof of their superiority in this first half hour, it was not until the 36th minute that the hosts would even see a first shot on target. It did little to trouble Alex Nübel who comfortably captured Kylian Mbappé’s long shot. This shot, however, would wake up Christophe Galtier’s men, who hit the post twice on the same play, first Messi and then Mbappé (45′).

Another penalty conceded this season

Ahead at the break, the Rouge et Blanc then had a big opportunity as soon as Wissam Ben Yedder took over the game. Played in behind the defense by Youssouf Fofana, the Monegasque captain manages to beat Donnarumma but his effort from 30 meters would flash over the bar.

More enterprising, the Parisians pushed to equalize, with Alexander Nübel keeping out Neymar before Renato Sanches’ attempt came closet to the right post (59′). Unfortunately, an equalizer would come ten minutes later on a penalty converted by the Brazilian playmaker (69′).

A well-earned point

Not satiated by this equalizer, the Capital side continued to be dangerous and once again hit the post through Achraf Hakimi (74′). Then on an quick counter-attack, the Monegasque goalkeeper intervened  to deny Kylian Mbappé (84′).

But in a heroic way, the Rouge et Blanc managed, despite everything, to resist the hosts’ attack, and thus left the Parc des Princes with a very good point. The team’s next match is Wednesday at the Stade Louis-II against Troyes (7 p.m).
