AS Monaco narrowly lose in Lille

AS Monaco narrowly lose in Lille
After four consecutive victories, AS Monaco lost away to Lille OSC (2-1). Pietro Pellegri was the scorer for the Principality side.

The first attacks of the game are went the way of AS Monaco who, through their two full backs Ruben Aguilar (1st) and Caio Henrique (4th), were quick to put Lille in danger. The Northern side emerged without conceding each time but the Red and Whites continued to attack the goal of Mike Maignan, who came out quickly to take the ball from the feet of Wissam Ben Yedder, played in by Gelson Martins (8th). The first attack from the hosts came a few moments later but the Monegasque defense was vigilant to prevent Jonathan David from opening the scoring (11th).

A real tactical battle

While there had not yet been a shot on target in the game, Sofiane Diop would rectify that by taking his chances upon breaking into the area (13′). The ball was caught by Mike Maignan. It was a real tactical battle that took place between two well-organized sides. Midway through the first period, LOSC would have its first two shots of the match through Burak Yilmaz (24th) and then Jonathan David (25th), which were dealt with without danger by Vito Mannone. On the other hand, the ASM goalkeeper would be forced into a fine save before the break, going full stretch  to stop a curled shot from Jonathan Bamba (42nd), who would try his luck again two minutes later, only to be off target this time. Meanwhile, Wissam Ben Yedder once again tried to beat Mike Maignan, but his shot was too central and was easily claimed (35′).

A first goal of the season for Pietro Pellegri

The second period started at a faster pace than the first and it was the Red and Whites who were once again the first to go on the attack. Kevin Volland had his chance on a cutback from Wissam Ben Yedder but couldn’t get his shot away cleanly (47th). Two minutes later, Vito Mannone had to deal with a long free kick from Burak Yilmaz. The Italian goalkeeper made his second save of the afternoon, but then there was nothing he could do about a shot from Jonathan David (53rd) which allowed LOSC to take the lead. Christophe Galtier, Lille coach, replaced his scorer with Yusuf Yazici, who would also score after a cutback from Yilmaz (65′). Niko Kovac then sent all of his attacking players onto the pitch to try to make up for it. With a fine sequence of control with his chest before shooting with his left foot, Pietro Pellegri would score his first goal of the season at the start of stoppage time. AS Monaco’s reaction came a little too late and the visitors were stopped in their tracks after four consecutive wins.
