Jürgen Klinsmann returns to Louis II

Jürgen Klinsmann returns to Louis II
A striker for AS Monaco for two seasons, Jürgen Klinsmann had never returned to le Rocher since his transfer to Tottenham in 1994. It is with pleasure that the 1990 World Champion returned to the Stade Louis-II on Saturday during the pre-season match against Sampdoria.

Jürgen Klinsmann had a lot of good memories at le Rocher, as much for his athletic abilities as his quality as a human. Scorer of 29 goals in 60 games in the red and white jersey from 1992 to 1994, the German international striker was one of the key players of the European epic that saw AS Monaco reach the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time during the 1993-1994 season. The Red and White lost to AC Milan, the future winner, over FC Barcelona in the final.

World Champion in 1990, followed by a 1996 European Champion with Germany (their first post-reunification title), Jürgen Klinsmann later became a coach after a career of 17 seasons as a player. Appointed coach of the Mannschaft in 2004, Klinsmann managed Bayern Munich in the 2008-2009 season, before the native of Göppingen crossed the Atlantic to become US coach from 2011 to 2016.

After leading Germany and Bayern Munich, Jurgen Klinsmann led the US National Team for five years (2011-2016).

Since Jürgen Klinsmann had been asked by the LFP to present the Trophy League Cup in Bordeaux on the occasion of the PSG – AS Monaco final on March 31, 2018, he never had the opportunity to return to the Stade Louis-II since his departure for England and Tottenham in 1994. On this return, the German legend did not leave empty-handed, as the Vice President of AS Monaco, Oleg Petrov, gave him a jersey with his name and number 7.
