AS Monaco among the best academies in Europe
AS Monaco trusts its young players, that’s a fact. A recent study by the CIES Football Observatory showed that the club from the Rock had the youngest team among the European Big 5 leagues behind AC Milan, through the first seven matchdays of league play. This week, the independent study center, based in Neuchâtel and specializing in statistical analysis of football, published a ranking of the best academies in Europe. This index lists the academies which provide the most players to teams in the European Big 5 championships (Germany, England, Spain, France, Italy).

The Academy outperforms Manchester City and Bayern Munich
It takes into account the number of players trained at the club playing in the five major European leagues as well as their playing time, as well as their average age. Far behind Real Madrid, which logically takes first place in this continental hierarchy with 43 players who have passed through Castilla, AS Monaco still is in a very good position.
The Principality club, thanks to its academy, thus sits in 12th position, behind teams such as FC Barcelona, Olympique Lyonnais, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, renowned for the quality of their training. The Academy, now centralized at La Diagonale, has provided 22 players who are currently playing in a European Big 5 club, with an average age of just 26 years old. It’s better than institutions like Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Ajax Amsterdam, AC Milan, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Liverpool.
A nursery for France and Europe
To define a club as “trainer”, the CIES respects the definition decreed by UEFA, namely: “the training clubs are those where the players have played for at least three seasons between 15 and 21”. This is obviously the case with players like Benoît Badiashile, Kylian Mbappé (PSG), Yannick Ferreira Carrasco (Atlético Madrid), Layvin Kurzawa (PSG), Valère Germain (Marseille), Abdou Diallo (PSG), Almamy Touré (Eintracht Frankfurt) , Valentin Eysseric (Fiorentina) or Nampalys Mendy (Leicester).
