Patrice Evra, former Monegasque player from 2002 to 2006 retired on Monday at 38 years old. The former French international played 163 matches with AS Monaco.

Patrice Evra joined AS Monaco at just 21-years-old after two seasons with OGC Nice. The former captain of the French team wore the Monegasque shirt from 2002/2003 until January 2006. It is with the club that the former left-back of the Red and White made his debut in Ligue 1, on August 3, 2002, against Troyes.

He played 36 games in his first season with the Principality’s club with a goal scored. Following his first season with Les Monegasques, Patrice Evra was called up to the French National Team for the first time. The former French defender won the League Cup the same year in a final against FC Sochaux (4-1). The Frenchman was the star of this match, winning the first trophy of his professional career.

In 2004, Patrice Evra enjoyed a very good year from a team and an individual point of view. The native of Dakar, Senegal, was part an epic of 2004 season, where he held the left flank of the Monegasque defense throughout the year. Evra was the last player of this team still active.

It was with the Monegasques that Evra was first selected to join the Blues against Bosnia on August 18, 2004. At the end of the season, the former Monegasque was elected best of Ligue 1 and part of the team of the season.

In the winter of 2006, the former defender was transferred to England and Manchester United, where he won the Champions League with the English club. Patrice Evra also played at Juventus of Turin and Olympique Marseille before finishing his career with West Ham.

The former captain of the French Team played 163 games with AS Monaco from 2002 to 2006, winning a League Cup and a Champions League final. In 2014, Patrice Evra was elected by the fans in the Monegasque all-time team for the club’s 90th birthday.
