An omnipresent Jordan Teze is MVP against Manchester City

An omnipresent Jordan Teze is MVP against Manchester City
Scorer of the first goal for the Rouge et Blanc with a splendid strike and a masterful performance in midfield, the Dutch defender was named MVP of the draw against the Citizens (2-2) by the fans on the AS Monaco App.

It was the match of a leader. Several days after celebrating his 26th birthday, Jordan Teze was very influential this Wednesday evening at the Stade Louis-II. With a magnificent goal and plenty of effort, the Dutch right back, deployed in midfield for the occasion, was one of the main architects of draw against Manchester City as part of the second matchday of the Champions League (2-2).

A shot from out of nowhere 🛸

While AS Monaco found themselves trailing early in the match, Erling Haaland quickly made his mark with his finishing (0-1, 15′), and the Monaco number 4, well found by Krépin Diatta, put the ball in Gianluigi Donnarumma’s top corner to level the score (1-1, 18′)! It was a veritable guided missile that allowed him to score his third goal for the club in La Diagonale in Europe’s most prestigious competition. Indeed, it was a masterpiece made all the more remarkable by the fact that he only had… 0.03 expected goals!

I want to say a big congratulations to them, because they played a great game for the team! I just want to point out that Jordan Teze is a right-back who was recruited for this position, and that Mamadou Coulibaly, who is returning from a cruciate ligament rupture, was only playing his second Champions League game today after Bruges.

A new position… 🐙

Repositioned in midfield alongside Mamadou Coulibaly for the second consecutive time after the match against Lorient, Teze — regularly a right back — made a big impact on the match with his activity. With a 92.3% of passing rate and 6 duels won in the match (the best Monaco starter in these two areas), the Groningen native helped the Rouge et Blanc twice come back to level against Pep Guardiola’s men.

…New responsibilities 🥵

In charge of set pieces, Jordan Teze also took responsibility for the team’s attacking play. In charge of corners and wide free kicks in this match, he delivered eight crosses in total, including the one that led to the penalty converted by Eric Dier at the end of the match. It was thus a complete match, which confirmed the Dutchman’s rise to power in this new role.

It was a nice goal, indeed, especially against a goalkeeper like Gianluigi Donnarumma, one of the best in the world in that position. Krépin gave me the ball, I had time, and all I could think about was shooting and it went in! I tried the same goal in the second half with my left foot, I was confident, I'll try again next time.

A first MVP with the Club! 🏆

He also recorded impressive statistics in addition to his goal which earned him his first MVP title since his arrival at AS Monaco: an award obtained thanks to 66% of the votes by the Principality club’s supporters on the AS Monaco App. The number 4 thus beat Eric Dier, who scored the decisive goal, and Philipp Köhn, who made five saves, including a sensational one to his left from Erling Haaland’s shot. Well done Jordan! 👏
