A former left-back with more than 360 professional appearances, the former Belgian international (13 caps) began his coaching career after hanging up his boots in the summer of 2021. "Poco" started with the U21s of Union Saint-Gilloise, before continuing with the U18s of KRC Genk and then the U18s of the Belgian national team. Returning to Union -- on the first team bench this time -- the 38-year-old manager won the Belgian Super Cup and the Belgian league in his first season. Sébastien Pocognoli thus led Union to its first league title in 90 years, at the end of a historic campaign via the Champions' Play-offs (28 points out of 30). At the end of this 2024-2025 season, also marked by a play-off place in the Europa League (beaten by Ajax Amsterdam), the Seraing native was awarded the title of coach of the year in the Pro League.
