Niko Kovac: "End the year on a good note"

Niko Kovac: "End the year on a good note"
The coach of AS Monaco spoke at a press conference on the eve of a visit from Stade Rennais, this Wednesday in Ligue 1 (9 p.m.).

It is the last match of 2021. To conclude its year on a high, the Club will try to beat Stade Rennais this Wednesday evening (9 pm) as part of the  19th round of Ligue 1. It’s a big match against the third-placed side in the league that Niko Kovac approaches with the desire to win to spend the holidays closer to the top of the table.

The game against the Red Star (2-0) was very positive, we played with a lot of seriousness and concentration and that is what we will need to do tomorrow too. It will be a tough battle, but we are also in good form.

End 2021 on a high

It is the last match of the year, before what will be a short break. A very solid opponent is coming to face us tomorrow, a team that are currently third and whom we are trying to catch in the table. To end the year on a good note, it would be good to win this meeting.

In good form

We lost against PSG (2-0) in our last league match, but in our last ten matches we have lost only once. We are on the right path. The game against the Red Star (2-0) was very positive, we played with a lot of seriousness and concentration and that is what we will need to do tomorrow too. It will be a tough battle, but we are also in good form.

On Rennes

This is a good team, the best in Ligue 1 in my opinion, with a coach who does a very good job and players who perform at a high level. They play physical, direct and fast football. I would say that there is not a star but rather a group and that is the real strength of this team. But we believe in our qualities and we will rise to the challenge.

A positive first half of the season

We want to win the match against Rennes, but overall it’s been a good first half of the season. Tomorrow will already be our 30th match of the season, which is higher than the other Ligue 1 teams, but the results have been good. Of course, with a win tomorrow we would be in even better nick. In the second half of the season, we’ll start with two months with just one match a week, which will allow us to work even harder, something we haven’t necessarily had time to do so far.

The trip to Quevilly-Rouen in the Coupe de France

I’m going to watch their match against Caen tonight. I had already watched the last Red Star match to study them. It’s a match against a Ligue 2 team, away, as our first match on January 2, so it won’t be easy, but we want to go as far as possible in this competition. We will be the favorites, but I am thinking above all of tomorrow’s match against Rennes.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
