Philipp Köhn: "I am very happy to have joined AS Monaco"

Philipp Köhn: "I am very happy to have joined AS Monaco"
Having arrived in the Principality in mid-July to sign a five-year contract with AS Monaco, the Swiss goalkeeper spoke to the press during his presentation conference, alongside fellow new recruit Mohammed Salisu.

He has performed well in the team’s preseason matches. A starter four times since arriving in mid-July in the Principality, Philipp Köhn has already succeeded in making high-level saves, while being reassuring in his play with his feet and coming off his line. 48 hours from his first league match in Clermont (Sunday, 3 p.m.), the 25-year-old Swiss goalkeeper was presented to the media, alongside Mohammed Salisu, who also arrived this summer.

Hello everyone. It is a pleasure to be in front of you again, to introduce you to Mohammed and Philipp, our two new players. We thank them for joining our project and sharing our ambition. We wish them the best for the future at AS Monaco. They are players that we have been following for a long time. They have a very good mindset.

The expectations of fans of his position

I don’t look at the past but rather focus on the future. But I can say that I am ready to give my all during training and in league and cup matches. I can’t wait to start on Sunday against Clermont and I’m convinced that we have all the qualities to succeed this season. I feel a good chemistry in the team.

His personal goals

I wanted to take another step in my career. I had a very good season last year, and when I had the opportunity to join AS Monaco, I didn’t hesitate. I am very happy about this because it is indeed a great Club with a rich history. I therefore have the desire to progress even further, in order to help the team achieve its goals, which is to play in Europe in 2024-2025. In any case, I can’t wait to get started.

Competition among the goalkeepers

I like to compete and have competition with my teammates, it helps me to develop. The goalkeepers here, whether Radoslaw Majecki or Yann Lienard, have a lot of quality. I hope to show mine too, so as to play as many matches as possible this season.

I am very happy to have him join the team. Philipp is a talented goalkeeper. He is particularly good in 1v1s and in playing with the ball at his feet. We can say that he is like another defender, able to play the ball cleanly. He has done a good job in preseason, especially against Arsenal and Bayern.

His style and his qualities

Goalkeepers’ style of play has changed a lot in recent years. I learned my trade in Germany and I am inspired by Manuel Neuer, who has a modern style. The team plays with a high press and I have to be focused all the time in order to anticipate balls in behind the defence. Reading the game is one of my main qualities.

His memories of the World Cup

Indeed, I was played for Switzerland but unfortunately I did not have the chance to play. Representing your country inevitably means making a great memory and an exceptional experience. I learned a lot alongside Yann Sommer, who is a great goalkeeper and a wonderful person. I intend to work even harder to become number 1 and play in more World Cups.
