Simon Adingra joins AS Monaco
Born in Abobo, Ivory Coast, Simon Adingra, 24, was developed in Benin at the ABIS Sport Academy (2016–2020) before joining the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana in 2020. He then continued his development in Denmark with FC Nordsjælland, where he signed his first professional contract.
A remarkable season at Union Saint-Gilloise
He made an immediate impact on his first appearance for the senior team on 18 April 2021 against FC Copenhagen, scoring a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw During his time with the Danish club, the winger featured in 40 matches, recording a total of 12 goals and 4 assists. His performances earned him a move to the Premier League in the summer of 2022, when he signed for Brighton & Hove Albion.
He was subsequently loaned out to Union Saint-Gilloise, a partner club of the Seagulls. In Belgium, Simon Adingra enjoyed an outstanding season, making 51 appearances and registering 15 goals and 14 assists, playing a key role in Union Saint-Gilloise’s successful 2022–2023 campaign, which ended with a podium finish.
Goals against renowned teams in England
Back in England the following season, the left winger gradually established himself in Brighton’s first team, amassing 73 appearances over two seasons (12 goals and 5 assists). He made his mark on his very first Premier League appearance by scoring against Luton Town, before also finding the net against high-profile opponents such as Liverpool, Everton and Aston Villa.
Winner and best young player of the 2023 AFCON
Alongside his club career, Simon Adingra took part in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, hosted in Ivory Coast. After an impressive tournament in which he was named Best Young Player, he played a decisive role in the Elephants’ triumph by providing both assists in the final (2–1). He was also named Man of the Match at the end of that encounter.
Simon Adingra arrives at the Principality from Sunderland, a club he joined last summer and with whom he made 15 appearances. He will bring directness and pace to the Rouge & Blanc. After spells in Denmark, Belgium and England, the winger is now set to shine Ligue 1 in the colours of AS Monaco in the number 24 shirt.
