Sofiane Diop: "Very happy to string together two victories in a row"

Sofiane Diop: "Very happy to string together two victories in a row"
Very happy to secure a second victory in Ligue 1 in four days against FC Metz (4-0), the AS Monaco attacking midfielder was very satisfied with the performance of the Rouge et Blanc following the match.

A breath of fresh air. At the end of a week which has already seen victory in Angers field on Wednesday (3-1), the players of AS Monaco did it again against Les Grenats at the Stade Louis-II (4-0). A clear and nearly flawless match, the result allowed the teammates of Sofiane Diop, author of a goal and an assist, to return to close to with in a point of the Top 5, and continue their good form, something which our midfielder spoke about to the media post-match.

We wanted to stay on the good run of momentum we started in Angers (3-1). We got the job done tonight. We wanted to score early in the game, and that's what we did too.

Hello Sofiane. It was a very serious display today for AS Monaco with this 4-0 victory…

We knew it wasn’t going to be easy today, even though FC Metz aren’t in great form. We wanted to stay on the good run of momentum we started in Angers (3-1). We got the job done tonight. We wanted to score early in the game, and that’s what we did too. So then we were able to play more freely.

You scored and had an assist; was this a satisfactory display for you?

Yes, it’s true. But there are always things to be said, that can be corrected, because I am a perfectionist. It’s good, I’m glad I scored that goal and gave Gelson Martins an assist. I think the score reflects the character of the match, which we dominated from the first to the last minute. We will certainly review some silly individual and collective mistakes, but overall it was a very satisfying afternoon.

Tell us about your goal. Did we have the impression that you were surprised to score?

My intention was to score, but I hit it a little poorly, so the trajectory was a little weird, the ball was floating. The important thing is that the ball ended up in the back of the net, and I’m very happy to have scored that goal.

You end this week with two wins and six points. Can we say it’s job done?

We played in Angers on Wednesday, and we had to end this week well. There are matches every three days at the end of the year and a review of our play is constant and mandatory after each performance. It’s going to give us some confidence because it’s been a while since we last won two in a row. Now we have this game in Austria on Thursday in the Europa League in Graz, and we want to finish the job well, even though we have already qualified.
