Adi Hütter: "I'm very happy to have ten points tonight"
Very happy to have seen his team achieve a third convincing win this season against Lens (3-0), their second at the Stade Louis-II - coupled with a clean sheet -, the Austrian manager spoke to the media after the meeting.

He couldn’t have dreamed of a better start with the Rouge et Blanc. Winner of his third Ligue 1 game in four matches, Adi Hütter was very happy with the performance of his players against Lens at the Stade Louis-II (3-0). It was a prestigious success against the vice-champions of France, and a result which the Monegasque coach analyzed at a press conference.🎙

Hello coach. A great victory, a clean sheet… it’s a perfect evening!

Yes I am happy today, because we played the most challenging opponent of this start to the season, the vice-champion of France. However, we created a lot of chances, scored three goals and got a clean sheet. I am also happy because we scored from a set piece, which had not been the case until then. On the contrary, we conceded a lot. It was a very good performance from us and I’m very happy to have 10 points tonight after four games.

We were very good today in this area of play, scoring two goals from Wilfried Singo and Guillermo Maripán. We also defended well on the opponent's work in our area. But it is something that you have to work on regularly, whether offensively or defensively, because sometimes a goal from a corner or a free kick can decide the outcome of a match.

Can you say more your progress on set plays…

I don’t like to talk about previous seasons, I find it inappropriate. In any case, we were very good today in this area of play, scoring two goals from Wilfried Singo and Guillermo Maripán. We also defended well on the opponent’s work in our area. But it is something that you have to work on regularly, whether offensively or defensively, because sometimes a goal from a corner or a free kick can decide the outcome of a match.

Is this the start of the season you dreamed of?

I’m not a dreamer, in life I’m more of a realistic person (smiles). We worked very hard during the pre-season, especially during the training camp in England, doing intense training, repeating the types of plays that we are seeing today. But we also organized many meetings with the players. It is the fruit of this work that is the ten points in our pocket this evening… even if I would have preferred to have twelve (smiles)!

Is the international break likely to break this momentum?

I told my players in the locker room after the game that I wished them the best on international duty during this break. But also that I wanted them to come back in shape. I don’t really see it as a break on my end, because we will continue to work, in particular to prepare for the two big games against Nice and Marseille at home, not to mention the trip to Lorient which will be difficult. I want us to prepare quickly for these matches, to keep the momentum going.

I am very happy with the way we played, even if everything was not perfect, but the season is still very long. I'm fond of attacking football, but I also liked what the team did to keep a clean sheet tonight.

Were you surprised by Lens’ low block?

Maybe they didn’t play as usual because we were a very good opponent tonight (smile)! We have studied this team a lot, which is fantastic, and I would also like to salute the work of Franck Haise, whose philosophy and principles of play we know well. I also think that we scored at the right times today.

Does the absence of European play allow you to work better during the week?

I don’t know if that’s an advantage. We said at the start of the season that we were disappointed not to play European football this season, but that we will play the league and the Coupe de France to the fullest. Maybe that will allow us to better prepare for each match. But at the same time it is our objective to reconnect with Europe next season.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
