Thiago Scuro: "Continue to progress in this direction"

Thiago Scuro: "Continue to progress in this direction"
After a big win against Lens, the AS Monaco Director of Football spoke in the mixed zone to take a quick look at this successful start to the season.

AS Monaco will spend the September break at the top of the Ligue 1 standings! Impressive collectively and physically, the Rouge et Blanc ended the first part of the season well against Lens by winning calmly, 3-0 on Saturday evening, their third win in four matches. It’s been a successful and promising start to the season, something which satisfies Thiago Scuro, AS Monaco’s Director of Football, who spoke with journalists in the mixed zone after the match. 🎙

Our coach, Adi Hütter, has a very clear philosophy of play with natural leadership, and this is reflected on the pitch. We want to continue to progress in this direction, and grow with these concepts and have a good season.

Hello Thiago. How do you feel about this very successful start to the season?

What I feel today is that the players have bought into the idea of play and are aligned with our objectives for the season. Our coach, Adi Hütter, has a very clear philosophy of play with natural leadership, and this is reflected on the pitch. We want to continue to progress in this direction, and grow with these concepts and have a good season.

AS Monaco has already scored 13 goals this season, the most in the Big 5 leagues…

The idea that we want to develop is to play aggressive football, a style of football resolutely focused on the offensive side of things. This way of playing creates many chances, and we have very good players ready to exploit them to score. And at the back we are working hard to defend as a team, in the best possible way. Everyone is playing together, whether in attack or defense. It gives us the consistency to attack well this season.

No less than 18 internationals will join their countries during the break, this is another positive sign!

Yes, it’s a good thing, it shows the quality of our team. Not only for the players who joined us during the summer break, but also those who have been there for several seasons. Eighteen players called up for international duty is a lot, and it proves the strength of AS Monaco from an individual point of view. But if we continue to work like this, we will also grow as a team and at club level.

It's very good to make a good start, but we know that the league season is very long and that it will be decided in the last five or six round. We must therefore keep in mind the next match, think about the next results and not think too much about the future.

You have already taken a big lead over your direct competitors…

What matters in football is how things end, not how they start. It’s very good to make a good start, but we know that the league season is very long and that it will be decided in the last five or six round. We must therefore keep in mind the next match, think about the next results and not think too much about the future.

Your thoughts on the performances of summer signing Wilfried Singo ?

We have a very balanced team, thanks to players who can play in several positions, as Wilfried can do. It also gives our coach Adi Hütter several options for the season. It is a very good thing.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
