Maghnes Akliouche's reaction after qualifying against Auxerre
After the important victory obtained in Auxerre in the round of 64 of the Coupe de France (1-2), the French international spoke in the mixed zone, happy with AS Monaco's qualification.

Qualification secured. Dominant in the first half despite AJ Auxerre’s equalizer, the Rouge et Blanc managed to win their Coupe de France round of 64 match, thanks to a brace from Mika Biereth (1-2). After this valuable victory, which secured their place in the round of 32 of the competition, Maghnes Akliouche spoke in the mixed zone 🎙️

Hello Maghnes. What are your feelings after this match?

To begin with, regarding Taki’ (Minamino), we hope it’s not too serious. He was carried off on a stretcher, so I hope he’ll be okay, because he’s an important player for us! As for the match, I think we should have sealed the win earlier, whether in the first or even the second half; we really needed to put the game to bed sooner. We struggled a bit, but we managed to win here, which is never easy. We’ll be able to take advantage of this break and come back strong because this second half of the season is going to be crucial for us.

It's a formation where I'm almost always involved in decisive plays, so I feel good in it. Now, the coach chooses the lineup based on the opponents and the matches, and I'll be ready to play whether it's a little further to the right or in the center, even though, of course, I have my preference.

How do you feel playing in this 4-4-2 diamond formation?

It’s a formation where I’m almost always involved in decisive plays, so I feel good in it. Now, the coach chooses the lineup based on the opponents and the matches, and I’ll be ready to play whether it’s a little further to the right or in the center, even though, of course, I have my preference. By being closer to the penalty area, I have a better connection with my strikers, and it’s definitely the position I’m most comfortable in.

What do you think is AS Monaco’s main area for improvement?

We often have very good periods of play. Now, we also need to be able to score during those times and put the game to bed earlier. Similarly, it’s crucial that we don’t concede when we’re under a bit of pressure. These two things will be important for us to manage better in the second half of the season.

A word on Mika Biereth, who scored a double today?

We’re very happy for him! He’s been working hard for six months, he knows he’s been through a somewhat difficult period, but now to be able to play in this system that suits him well and to score two goals, that’s great. We’re happy for him, and he needs to continue this momentum whenever he gets the opportunity. Mika has already scored many goals for us, but never a brace before (three hat tricks last season), so we hope this is far from being his last one for AS Monaco.

Now it’s time for the break, how will you be spending this period?

It’s quite short, but we need to stay in shape, clear our heads a bit, and see our families so we can come back strong. What about a review of this first part of the season? We’ll do a full review at the end, because we’re still competing in every competition. We have a lot of things to improve.
