Niko Kovac: "Continue to work in this way"

Niko Kovac: "Continue to work in this way"
At the end of their week of training in Austria, AS Monaco managed to win their first game of the preseason against Red Bull Salzburg, defending Austrian champions and a team qualified for the Champions League play-off round. It was a victory and a week of work that satisfied the Monegasque coach.

The season has begun! AS Monaco have played their first preseason match against Red Bull Salzburg this Saturday afternoon. Despite an opening goal conceded in the seventh minute, Niko Kovac’s men won 3-1 thanks to a first goal by Enzo Millot in Red and White, and one each Sofiane Diop and Anthony Musaba at the end of the game. It was a victory, as well as a week of training in Zell Am See, which pleased the Croatian manager, who spoke after the match.

We have worked hard since Monday in a pleasant setting in Zell Am See and I am satisfied with the attitude and investment shown by the group. Players recognize the importance of effort in preseason as it is such a pivotal moment in a season. This is just the beginning, we have to keep working this way.

How was this first week of training in Austria?

We have worked hard since Monday in a pleasant setting in Zell Am See and I am satisfied with the attitude and investment shown by the group. Players recognize the importance of effort in preseason as it is such a pivotal moment in a season. This is just the beginning, we have to keep working this way.

What lessons have you learned from this first win against Red Bull Salzburg?

Building on what I’ve seen this week, I appreciated the state of mind of my players. Although the result is not so important in this kind of match, I’m happy to see that the boys have shown some of the technical and tactical aspects we’ve worked on this week. They answered the call against the reigning Austrian champion, a team which has resumed training earlier than us.

You were very well received by the supporters of Red Bull Salzburg…

It’s true that I had a great time at this club, where I ended my career and where I also learned the ropes in terms of my coaching. Today I recognized a lot of familiar faces and people I have been lucky enough to work with, I am very happy.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
