Reactions from Zakaria and Köhn after the Derby against Nice
There were mixed emotions after the 110th Côte d’Azur derby. While AS Monaco managed to secure a third consecutive clean sheet, they were unable to break down OGC Nice’s resilient defence (0-0). Shortly after the game, Denis Zakaria and Philipp Köhn spoke in the mixed zone to share their thoughts. Excerpts. 🎙️
Good evening, Denis. How do you feel after this derby?
I’m frustrated because we came here to win. Unfortunately, we only claimed one point, so we’ll have to work to do better in the upcoming matches. It’s positive that we didn’t concede, but to win, you have to score. We weren’t able to do that today despite having chances, which is a shame.

How do you feel playing in this back three?
I’m happy to be able to help the team. If we keep keeping clean sheets, I’m glad to continue in this role. (On his speed) The team needs pace, but we also have several quick defenders who have the qualities to play in this position.
How did you adapt against Elye Wahi, a player with a different profile from yours?
He was a very strong opponent, making a lot of runs in behind. He also uses his body well, so it wasn’t an easy duel to manage, but I’m happy that we were able to keep this clean sheet.
Philipp Köhn’s reaction
Good evening, Philipp. How do you feel after this draw in the derby?
It’s a mixed feeling because we’re happy to have secured another clean sheet, but at the same time, we wanted to win. Unfortunately, we lacked luck in the final third and the opposition goalkeeper prevented some chances. Overall, I think we are making progress, especially defensively over the past few matches. We can build on that as we continue working ahead of Friday’s game against Nantes.
A few words about your new teammate, Simon Adingra.
He made a good impact when he came on against Strasbourg and tried to make a difference. Today, it was more complicated in a different position, but he did his best to create positive moments. He’s a very good guy, eager to learn, and I’m really happy to have him with us.
