Wissam Ben Yedder: "Focused on Bordeaux"
AS Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder spoke to journalists this afternoon, two days before the match against Girondins de Bordeaux.

AS Monaco’s top scorer with five goals scored, Wissam Ben Yedder appeared this afternoon in a video press conference (held via Zoom) in the wake of one given by his manager Niko Kovac. The captain looked back on the start of the season for his team and spoke about the next fixture, the match against Girondins de Bordeaux this Sunday (kick off at 5 p.m. at the Stade Louis-II).

Wissam Ben Yedder: “Before I start answering questions, I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the victims of the attacks.”

Focus on Bordeaux:
“We have to continue to get to know each other and to create new relationships on the pitch that will allow us to do things well. The coach has only arrived recently, we must not forget this about him. We have to understand everything that the coach wants and what style of play to apply. It didn’t work against Montpellier and Lyon, but we are working hard to get back to winning ways Sunday against Bordeaux. We have a lot of qualities and are doing good things. We must be aware of our strengths and have confidence. Things were going well at the start of the season, it’s been a bit more difficult in the last few matches, but it’s up to us to set the record straight. I am sure this team has a lot of quality and that we can change things.”

Working for success:
“I’m used to playing in different systems, with one or two forwards. What we need to do is improve in our style of play and find a relationship on the pitch together. I don’t have to have a preference. What I want is to be on the pitch and combine with my teammates so that we can score goals. We weren’t very good against either Montpellier or Lyon, but we are working on it and I am confident. Through hard work, we will find the solutions. This is the key to success.”

Wissam and AS Monaco:
“I want to give it my all. The Club, the management and the coach trust me and I will do everything to put AS Monaco in the best possible position. I am focused on my priority, which is the next game against Bordeaux. ”

Niko’s methods:
“Niko Kovac is trying to make us feel comfortable. We have conceded goals and scored fewer in the last few matches but it’s the whole collective aspect that has to come into play. It doesn’t matter which players are lined up alongside me, it’s up to them, me, the whole team, to make sure we are close and vary what we do to end up with an advantage. ”

Hatem Ben Arfa and Girondins de Bordeaux:
“We all know his qualities. We know he is an exceptional player one-on-one and beat anyone. It’s up to us to lock down well defensively so that he can’t come create chances. But whatever, we will be playing at home, we are focused on this match, we have to win it. What I’m telling myself is that for every match that happens, I have to be even better than the time before. This match against Bordeaux is a new opportunity. Bordeaux concede few goals? Maybe, so we’ll have to do everything on Sunday to score. I’ll give it my all, and if I can score and the team can win, then so much the better. ”

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
