Alexander Nübel: "Get back to work to come back well after the break"

Alexander Nübel: "Get back to work to come back well after the break"
The AS Monaco goalkeeper expressed the team's frustration after a draw away to Stade de Reims (0-0), despite exerting great pressure on the hosts at the end of the match.

Frustrating is the word! After a closely-fought encounter, but one which was dominated by the Rouge et Blanc against Reims, Alexander Nübel and his teammates could not avoid a draw in Champagne country (0-0). It was a result that did not satisfy AS Monaco, which despite everything remained in tenth place. The German goalkeeper, decisive against Mathieu Cafaro in the 74th minute, spoke to the media at the end of this match, which was played as part of the 13th round of Ligue 1.

On his play against Reims

There weren’t a lot of chances for either side today, despite their being quite a few shots. I’m happy to haved stopped the dangerous free kick in the middle of the second half. On a personal level, I feel that I did what I had to do. Unfortunately we didn’t have the chance to get the result come the end of the game, despite our domination. It was still a second clean sheet in a row, which is positive defensively for the team.

On how things changed in the second half

They put a lot more pressure on us in the second half, they were sharper offensively, so we had to adapt. They gave us problems, and we tried to find solutions. Come the end of the match, it’s a draw which obviously doesn’t satisfy us, but we have to take away from that.

On the team’s tough run of form

We had three games in the space of a week. Maybe we missed a little something to score a goal that could have liberated us, especially against Eindhoven and today against Reims. We absolutely wanted to make a difference and win this match. We tried everything to do so at the end of the match, playing much higher up the pitch. We will get back to work to come back well after the break in two weeks.

The spirit is good in the squad, we are all motivated to record positive results. We are ready to fight, to give everything to get back to winning ways.

On the mood in the locker room

The spirit is good in the squad, we are all motivated to record positive results. We are ready to fight, to give everything to get back to winning ways. If we could always find the solution to the problems posed by the opponents, we would win every match. But it is not that simple. When you put in the right ingredients, you don’t have to have any regrets. We must continue to work once again to get back on track as quickly as possible. In any case, the team’s state of mind is very good.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
