AS Monaco, fourth in the Big 5 in sprints
According to the latest weekly newsletter from the Observatoire du football (CIES), the Principality club ranks fourth the five big leagues in terms of the longest distance covered in sprints per match.

A great outpouring of energy. While AS Monaco remain five points off the podium in Ligue 1 and are simultaneously dominating their group in the Europa League, Niko Kovac’s men have been working hard since the start of the season. In addition to having four more European matches than all the other French participants in European action, the Rouge et Blanc have maintained a very high level of physical performance on the continent, the same as in the league.

Best in Ligue 1 in this stat:

Here’s the proof. According to the latest Football Observatory study, AS Monaco is the Ligue 1 club that has made the most sprints on average per match, ranking fourth among the Big 5 leagues in Europe. The CIES, specializing in the statistical analysis of football reports that, according to the figures compiled, Ruben Aguilar and his teammates complete 1.89 kilometers of sprints per match in the top flight. That’s almost 300 meters above the championship average (1.60). This repetition of high intensity efforts characterizes quite well the efforts of our Monegasques.

AS Monaco ahead of Bayern Munich

In this ranking, AS Monaco is in any case very close to teams like Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa (2.23 km/match), Athletic Bilbao (1.99) or even AC Milan under Stefano Pioli. (1.91), current co-leader of Serie A. The teammates of former track sprinter Gelson Martins are also ahead of Bayern Munich (1.85), the most successful team in this statistic in the Bundesliga. In the technical details of the study, the Football Observatory states that what they consider a sprint,  in run faster than  7.0 m/s or 25.2 km h.

Here is the proof that the Rouge et Banc do not spare their energy during the games.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
