Three plus one makes four. The Rouge et Blanc managed to bring back a draw from the Reale Arena (1-1), after a very tense match on the second matchday of the Europa League. Unbeaten after a point won away to Real Sociedad, Axel Disasi’s and his teammates now share the group lead alongside PSV Eindhoven. The Monegasque captain on the evening in Basque Country thus expressed satisfaction with the press following the match.
Good evening Axel. How did you experience scoring this goal after it finally awarded to you?
I know there was some debate at the end of the game, but the goal was awarded to me. My teammates joked with me a bit on that, some told me I scored well and others didn’t. (smiles) But in the end everyone was happy for me.

Alexander Nübel has been much better in the last two games. How did you see his performance today?
I have already had the opportunity to say that it’s a new context for him, he’s left his country. He had to be given time to play and adjust. Seeing him in training, we know his qualities. He’s been playing better and better over the last two games and I can tell you that we have full confidence in him. And I think that by the end of the season he will make even more decisive saves.
Was the draw the best result you could have asked for here in Spain?
I actually think in view of the game and especially the second half, it’s a good result for us. They pushed to win a lot and for us to finally take a point and stay at the top of the table, I think that tonight there are a lot of positives.
What was the plan at a tactical level?
We knew they were a typically Spanish team that likes to keep the ball, and that happened again tonight when I think they had a lot of possession (64%, ed). I think the coach’s tactics have paid off. We were perhaps at a lower level than usual, but in the end we’ll take this point; it’s one that makes us feel good.
Do you feel the team is picking up steam with this positive run of form?
A few weeks ago I said that I was not worried about the squad, about the team. Once again we know that our start to the season was not ideal, but little by little we are improving and I think that comes through our daily work in training. In any case, we obviously hope to continue on this dynamic.
Do you feel that Niko Kovac transmits his passion from the edge of the pitch?
Yes of course, we know he is passionate about football. He shows the same way of playing as a coach as when he was a player. We really feel that he wants to communicate this passion, this desire to us. It gives us all more confidence, when we see him experience the game like this we want to go to war for him.
