He did his first training session with his new teammates Monday morning, on the grounds of the Performance Center. It was then his turn in the new auditorium at La Turbie; Breel Embolo was presented to the media, in the presence of the Sporting Director of AS Monaco, Paul Mitchell, as well as the two other summer recruits. Very happy to start a new challenge, he expressed his joy at joining an ambitious club.
Breel Embolo’s press conference:
The choice to join AS Monaco
Hello everyone ! When AS Monaco contacts you, it’s not something you can refuse. There are very nice facilities here, a great squad, and it’s a legendary club. And then I have the confidence of the club’s hierarchy, who have shown me what is a very fine sporting project. I am 25 years old and for me competition is a force that pushes you to progress, so it is a good thing for me to arrive here in an ambitious club.

Looking to the World Cup with Switzerland
I work day after day to show my qualities in training. Again, it’s the competition that brought me here, because it makes you better. There are a lot of very good players in this group, and not only in front but on all parts of the pitch. If I do well wih my club, I will certainly have the chance to represent my country again.
Learning from his teammates
First of all I had a very good presentation from the Club by the coach and the Sporting Director, Paul Mitchell. Then obviously my teammates at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Marcus Thuram and Alassane Pléa told me about AS Monaco, even though I already knew it well, as well as Ligue 1 in general, because I watch a lot of football.
His contribution to the squad
I’m coming to AS Monaco aged 25, and I think it’s the right age to fully blossom here. I have the desire and the ambition to progress even more. Regarding my characteristics, I would define myself as powerful, attacking, because I like the game to be played on the front foot.. It is now up to me to achieve the team’s objectives with my teammates. Giving everything to win, that’s my mentality, and that’s what I want to bring to this squad, which is already very competitive.
The teammates he already knows
I know Alexander Nübel, because I spent two seasons with him at Schalke 04, on coming to the Bundesliga. I also rubbed shoulders with Kevin Volland and Ismail Jakobs in Germany, since we were opponents. Then obviously Wissam Ben Yedder, Aleksandr Golovin, and even Takumi Minamino, these are names that everyone knows. Finally, I want to say a special thank you to Eliot (Matazo), who made a big gesture by giving me the number 36, which proves that this squad has great human qualities.
The type of player he is
It depends on the players you play with around you, and the coach’s game plan. I can be a different player depending on the tactics, even if I play with my power in duels and my energy. Previously I’ve played in many different positions. But the most important thing is really to know in which pattern of play we want to use, and then I will give the best of myself to bring everything I know how to do to the team.

His inspirations at AS Monaco
It starts with the attackers who are still present at the club, like Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland, whom I have already mentioned. I know that there are great strikers who have come through here, and if I could bring a small part of what they brought to this club, I would be very proud of it.
I am a very calm person by nature. In the locker room I always try to take a step back from things, so I’m not necessarily someone who talks too much. But I’m sure I’ll quickly find my place in this team.
