Eliesse Ben Seghir is your MVP against Auxerre!

Scorer of a superb strike and author of a complete match, the young midfielder trained at the Academy was elected MVP of the win (3-2) against AJA on the AS Monaco App.

There’s no question he loves facing Auxerre. After scoring a double in the reverse fixture on his Ligue 1 debut, Eliesse Ben Seghir showed his skill again on Wednesday to help his team again defeat Auxerre (3-2). He did this with a very nice shot from the edge of the area, barely looking at the goal, he curling a shot past the near post of a helpless Ionut Radu in order to score his team’s second goal.

A memory of the reverse fixture

It was a bold goal that reminded us of the one scored at the Stade de l’Abbé-Deschamps a little over a month earlier, with the difference being that he had put it in the other corner of Benoît Costil’s goal.

Eliesse confirms what we have already bee seeing for a month. Before his goal, he made the same play but had preferred to make a difficult pass. I then spoke to him to tell him to shoot if this situation happened again. He works hard in training and is clever with and without the ball. I'm very happy with his performance over the past few weeks.

The midfielder trained at the Academy has therefore scored all three goals this season against the Auxerrois. This is a first in Ligue 1 since Jérémy Menez had a hat trick with Sochaux against Bordeaux in January 2005 for a player aged under 18 – he will celebrate his birthday on February 16 – scoring three times against the same opponent.

On the same level as Thierry Henry

This third goal also made him become AS Monaco’s second top scorer before the age of 18. He now joins Thierry Henry on this level and is now just behind Kylian Mbappé (four goals). And he still has two games left, against Clermont and then Paris at the Stade Louis-II to increase this total! Will he get there?

This Wednesday, in addition to his masterpiece, Eliesse Ben Seghir also added two key passes before a shot, attempted three shots and made four ball recoveries.
