Axel Disasi: 'Retain what we did in the first half'
It was a narrow result, but a win in the end. Under pressure in the second half from the brave Burgundians, the Rouge et Blanc ended up recording their third victory in Ligue 1 in 2023 against Auxerre (3-2). It was a close but essential win, since it allows to move to within four points of RC Lens in the standings. This is what Axel Disasi wanted to take away despite everything after the match.

It is true that in the second half, we made hard weather of it by not showing the same effort as in the first half. We conceded two goals that we could have avoided, so it’s true that tonight, even if there is a victory at the end, there is this bitter taste of not having had our best performance.
Despite everything, AS Monaco is doing a great job in the standings.
I find that there are indeed positive things to take away, especially during the first half. It’s been three games in which we’ve managed to be very sharp at the start of the match, so that’s good. Now we have to manage to do this throughout the game. At times we struggle too much in my opinion, like in the second half against Marseille and tonight against Auxerre. We’ll have to sort that out.

How do you explain it?
Maybe we put in less effort, as I said before. But there is definitely a bit of fatigue too. We need to be more consistent, and also more clinical in certain situations. Is it enough? I don’t think so, in any case the coach talks to us at half-time and tells us not to relax. But there were also fewer movements with the ball, so we will have to correct that if we want to have a very ambitious league season.
The attackers still found a great level of efficiency to score these three goals…
Indeed, they showed a good touch in front of the net on our three goals. Even if everything was not successful tonight, the clock continues to tick and we remain undefeated since the restart. And that’s a good thing! Once again we have to keep doing what we did in the first half, and do better when we return from the locker room to play a full match in Clermont on Sunday (1 p.m.).

Indeed, it may be tough against a team in form…
We know that they are having a good season, and are well-placed in the table. Against them, they are often in very competitive matches, and in addition the kick-off will be at 1 p.m., so it will not be easy. But if we want to be in contention at the top of the table, we must also win the more challenging matches. I dare to hope that we will show the sort of play we did in the first half tonight throughout the match in Clermont.

He already scored a fine goal in the reeverse fixture in Auxerre (a 3-2 win), and he did the same tonight! It’s good for him and for the squad. He is a young player full of talent, who listens, progresses well and assimilates the instructions fairly quickly. I wish for him to continue like this.
