Guillermo Maripán: "There is still a long way to go"

Guillermo Maripán: "There is still a long way to go"
Scorer of his fourth goal since the start of the year, the Monegasque central defender spoke to a press conference after the victory in Nantes (2-1), the fifth in a row for AS Monaco.

He has been one of the difference makers for AS Monaco in the last few weeks. The Chilean central defender, Guillermo Maripán, once again rose highest to score a fourth goal in five games. After this latest victory, 2-1 against Nantes to finish Matchday 22 in Ligue 1, the Monaco defender was clearly quite happy with a fifth win in as many matches for the Rouge et Blanc.

All teams need time to come together; we, too needed to take our bearings. We understand better and better the coach's instructions, which he asks us to put in place. We feel very good physically, that's made the difference.

Good evening Guillermo. It’s once again a great evening for AS Monaco.

We are very happy with this result and the start of the calendar year more generally, with this fifth win in a row. There is still a long way to go, we really have to stay focused to keep going.

How do you explain the team’s current form?

All teams need time to come together; we, too needed to take our bearings. We understand better and better the coach’s instructions, which he asks us to put in place. We feel very good physically, that’s made the difference. The objective is to stay as high as possible in the table, but above all to qualify for Europe.

I wasn't playing a lot but I continued to work hard out of respect for my teammates, for the staff and for the Club. This is something that was close to my heart. I wisely waited for my chance. When I had the opportunity to play, I knew how to seize it. I continue to train to be the best I can be.

Four goals in five games. What’s your secret to scoring so much?

It’s true that I’m been doing well in the opposing penalty area at the moment. Fortune has smiled on us, I’m very happy because it’s a great feeling when you score.

You’re now a regular starter; you must be satisfied.

Do you work on being decisive in front of goal?

I have never scored so much in my career (smiles). I work on the attacking set pieces in training with my teammates, obviously; I hope it can continue like this.
