Myron Boadu: "The coach and my teammates have always supported me"

Myron Boadu: "The coach and my teammates have always supported me"
Author of his first goal in Ligue 1 to guide the Rouge et Blanc to a convincing victory over Angers (3-1), the Dutch striker was very happy after the match.

What a moment of liberation! After scoring his first goal for AS Monaco in the Europa League against PSV a month ago (2-1 win), Myron Boadu has opened his scoring in the league away to Angers (3-1 win). Perfectly played in by Kevin Volland, our number 9 did not hesitate to finish a superb sequence of play. It was thus with a smile on his face that he spoke with the media after the match.

Good evening, Myron. Do you feel relieved to have scored your first goal in Ligue 1?

Yes of course, it’s always an important moment to score your first goal in the league, so I’m very happy to have got off the mark in Ligue 1. I have often been close to scoring, but now it’s happened. And I’m all the happier that we won this match against Angers. I hope this is just the beginning, because it’s going to be about continuing to work hard, I realize that. This victory is very important to us. It is up to us to continue this momentum.

Did you just put more determination into your play today?

Tonight we played as a team. Djibril spoke to us before the match, and told us things that gave us extra motivation. Today we wanted to show the true face of AS Monaco. Recently we had done so, but not over an entire match — tonight it was for 90 minutes. Apart from Angers’ goal, we had a great match. Personally, I wanted to show the best of myself. I was happy that the coach called on me. Angers are a good team, who were in seventh place before the match and are playing great football. I just wanted to give back the confidence I have been given; I was determined to score and that’s what I did.

I am simply grateful. I just want to thank him. It is very important that a coach like him shows his confidence in me. As to everything else, I didn't really pay attention to what was being said about me.

Niko Kovac has always supported you. What would you like to say to him in return?

I am simply grateful. I just want to thank him. It is very important that a coach like him shows his confidence in me. As to everything else, I didn’t really pay attention to what was being said about me. What matters to me is the support of the coach. When I’m on the pitch, it’s for him that I play, showing my qualities working hard.

When we won against PSV Eindhoven, Aurélien Tchouameni came to see me and said: "Everyone knows your qualities in the locker room, so show everyone what you are capable of doing on the pitch."

What was key for you during the difficult times you went through?

When we won against PSV Eindhoven, Aurélien Tchouameni came to see me and said: “Everyone knows your qualities in the locker room, so show everyone what you are capable of doing on the pitch.” This is a message that touched me, because it came from a key figure within the team, whom I respect a lot. I get along very well with all of them, and having their support is very important to me. Tonight we have shown that we are a team.
